How it works... We have taken the hassle out of getting your own short code, what we have done is registered a number of short codes for you to make use of. Each short code has been assigned a specified amount i.e. R2.00. With our SMS competitions console you are able to choose your SMS value, once your choice has been made you get assigned a short code number.

So you ask will my number be the same as some one else? The answer is YES you will have the same short code, but you will have a unique "keyword". If you hire a R2.00 short code number and specify that you want to book the word "real estate" nobody else can use that keyword, it is yours exclusively for the duration of your SMS competition. Once your SMS competition has finished the keyword will become available.

FAQ's

Q: Does Afridesign help me to advertise my competition ?
A:

No, we merely provide the software that allows you to create SMS competitions.


Q: A question we get asked a lot, is this a TURN KEY solution ?
A:

No, we merely provide the software that allows you to create SMS competitions. We don't handle any of the advertising of the competition, we don't choose winners, we don't do market research into a particular type of SMS Competition. That is all up to you.

Q: Do SMS competitions actually work ?
A:
The results of the campaign depends entirely on: 1. The advertising medium and advert quality, 2. The target market, 3. The value of the SMS, 4. The prize.

We have had campaigns that received less than 10 SMS's in any given month while at the same time we have had campaigns that received over 40,000 in a given month.

The most successful campaigns based on number of SMS's in a given month were on the R2 price band with 'on product' advertising requesting the user to send in barcodes. Another example was on the R1 band and they advertised in 25 magazines monthly, for a period of at least six months, and receiving about 50,000 SMS's in a single month. This campaign was not used to generate money however, simply sales leads. They added the SMS campaign to their current monthly advertising. This worked so well that they suspended the competition for a period of 4 months because their telesales team could not keep up with the number of leads generated by the campaign.

The most successful campaign based on monetary turnover was on the R20 band, utilised television advertising and had a prize worth about R100,000. This campaigned received 4,000 to 5,000 R20 messages a month.

In short, if you can afford it, TV advertising will be most likely to work, provided it is aimed at the right people. The other important factor to consider is the price of the SMS. The R20 campaign I mentioned above started out on R30 but quickly moved to R20 due to a lack of entries.

Please bear in mind that Afridesign only manages the software and the links into the networks and that the actual campaign details such as advertising and prizes etc. are in your hands.

Q: How many competitions can I create at one time ?
A:

As many as your heart desires :)

Please note that you will be charged R500 /month per competition that you run. i.e. if you have 3 Competitions running , your monthly cost will be R1600 inc VAT /month = R500 per competition x3 and R100 for the competitions console.

Q: When do we get paid out for our competition ?
A:

90 Days , after the first SMS entry received. You will then be paid in monthly cycles- i.e. If you start 1st January then you first payment will be end of March for the month of January.

Why only 90 days later ? The networks only pay us after that time period.

Q: If I opt for a reply SMS in my SMS Competition will I get charged ?
A:

Yes, for every reply SMS you will be charged R0.29c

Q: Can I have my own unique short code number ?
A:

No, we have a preset short code numbers that you make use of.

Q: What is the maximum value of a single SMS you can have ?
A: R30.00

Q: Do I need to install any software ?
A:

No, it is a browser based system which means all the software is on our side all you need to do is login. Requirements are IE 5.5 or above and Internet connection. You will be provided login details for your account.

Q: What benefit does an online console have to that of installed software ?
A:

You can use it on any machine you want and there is no need to install any software. So you could be in an internet cafe in France and be monitoring or setting up your SMS competitions.

Plus software updates are automatic.


Q: Should I wish to cancel my subscription for the SMS Competitions Service, how would I do that ?
A:

Our system is run on a month by month basis, as long as you want to use the system you can use it, obviously we will keep charging you until you cancel with us. Should you no longer wish to use our system all you need to do is give us a calendar months notice in writing after which we will stop billing you for the system.
